Mike Marsillo is a retired detective with the Scottsdale Police Department. During his time at Scottsdale PD, he investigated a wide variety of complex cases throughout his specialized assignments as a detective. He worked several years as an undercover narcotics detective. During his time in this unit, he worked crimes involving all aspects of drug investigations such as infiltrating drug organizations, posed as a buyer and seller of illegal drugs and the investigation of prescription fraud  to name a few.  Also while assigned to this unit, he investigated cases involving extortion, racketeering, murder for hire, gangs, organized crime and the illegal sales of weapons. He was also assigned to dignitary protection which included U.S. Presidents along with foreign dignitaries and was trained by the U.S. State Department.

This assignment also included the use of numerous electronic equipment such as surveillance, listening devices, tracking devices along with telephone tracking and trapping. He has trained and was certified by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) as a narcotics detective and has worked with them on numerous cases in Arizona as well as other states. He is a member of the International Association of Undercover Officers.

He was also a member of the S.W.A.T. team. This assignment included the execution of high risk search warrants and tactical entries during hostage situations and barricades. This unit also conducts surveillance, locating and tracking of suspects along with high risk traffic stops for the department. He also was trained by the FBI as a Hostage Negotiator, and was the lead negotiator on numerous hostage and barricade situations.    

He also spent time assigned to the Violent Crimes and Sex Crimes Unit. During his time in this unit, he investigated numerous homicides. These homicides included many high profile cases in the valley along with investigating officer involved shootings. Sex crimes included cases such as sexual assaults, child molestations, child abuse, elder abuse and all other physical and sexual crimes against persons. He has investigated numerous high profile sex cases in the valley along with one of only a few serial rape cases in the valley. He has investigated all aspects of these cases from the initial crime, to the crime scene, to the identifying of suspects all the way through to the prosecution.

He has testified as an expert witness numerous times at the state and federal level, along with presenting cases directly to Superior Court Judges and the Executive Committee of the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. He has the experience and expertise in numerous aspects of an investigation and collaborated with other state and federal agencies.

He is considered an expert in many areas of investigation and a few include Interview and Interrogation, Kinesics, Drug identification, Drug Investigation, Crime Scene Analysis, Certified as a Forensic Interviewer of Children, Certified Homicide Detective, and Asset Locating.

He was also a certified instructor to police officers throughout the state in interview and interrogation techniques, along with undercover narcotic training and instructed at the Phoenix Regional Police Academy for the Phoenix Police Department on these same topics.
